About

Hi, I’m Travis Prescott, aka “The Alpine Geek”

I’m a hiker, mountaineer and software engineer in the Pacific Northwest. The Alpine Geek began in 2019 as mainly a passion project of mine.

I first came to Washington in 2016 when I was fresh out of grad school. I can remember watching the Olympics from my friends’ 7th story condo in Seattle thinking, “I want to see all of this beautiful land!” I landed an interview with a local tech company, and I would go on to get the job. I couldn’t wait to relocate to Washington to begin my explorations!

First, I used my dog as an excuse to explore my surroundings. It didn’t take long for my thirst for the outdoors to grow stronger than my dog could keep up with, though.. Don’t worry, I still take her for long walks in the neighborhood! Long hikes through the frozen tundra are sort of my exclusive thing now. Not long after, I would meet the Mountaineers from Seattle. I met so many amazing people that were knowledgeable about the Alpine.

After many courses and trips, I began reaching challenging remote peaks on my own! Now I’m an instructor with the Mountaineers! These days, as I continue my exploration of Washington’s hidden gems, I also mentor and teach others how to do the same. I’ve helped dozens of passionate people find the confidence they need to reach their goals and destinations. The hiking population in Washington is exploding and for good reason. This is a truly gorgeous area with unlimited potential for exploration.
